The installation of Gani Adams as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland is ongoing.

Some prominent traditional rulers from Yorubaland are present at the venue waiting for the arrival of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and the new Aare Ona Kakanfo for the last lap of the installation rites.
Adams’s wife, Kemi and her daughter were among prominent personalities seated at the front row which include the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran and White Cap Chiefs from Lagos State.

Notable among the monarchs are the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji; Timi of Ede, Oba Adesola Lawal, the Akinrun of Ikirun, Oba Rauf Olayiwola and traditional rulers from Niger Delta as well as chiefs from Igbo land.

Cultural troupes from Osun and Oyo States have performed to entertain guests who include some foreigners that came to witness the historic moment.

Security arrangements are very right and policemen temporarily stopped Sat Guru Maharaji from driving his car into the pitch before he was eventually allowed into the pitch.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and the new Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adam, were said to be seated in the chariot which was followed by convoy of vehicles amidst chanting of Iku Baba Yeye from the crowd who followed them.

47-year-old Otunba Ganiyu Adams is a Nigerian social activist and politician. Ganiyu is the leader of a faction of the Oodua Peoples Congress, a secessionist and nationalist organisation based in Nigeria, which supports a sovereign state for the Yoruba people.
As the founding member and National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Gani rose to nationwide popularity after Inspector General of Police Musiliu Smith declared him wanted in 2000 with a financial reward of N100,000 for his group’s involvement in violent clashes. He was however arrested on 22 August 2001 but was later released after being held in prisons in Lagos, Abeokuta and Abuja.
On October 14, 2017, Adams was declared as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland by Oba Adeyemi III, The Alaafin of Oyo. The title was last held by Moshood Abiola before his death in 1998.
