The decision to axe Chelsea teen defender from Nigeria’s squad to the World Cup 2018 in Russia has been partially explained by coach of the team Gernot Rohr in an interview shortly before making his decision known to the players.
Aina as reported by Owngoalnigeria.com is among the players axed from the team alongside the likes of Uche Agbo, Stephen Eze, Junior Lokosa and goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye by Rohr.
Shortly before the decision to drop the defender who spent last season on loan to English Championship side Hull City was made public, Rohr openly admitted in an interview upon arrival in Abuja that he can’t take five full backs to the World Cup.
“We have some problems with our fullbacks, but we will work on this. We have a few days to be ready. We five fullbacks, we can only take four (to World Cup),” the coach said.
As reported by Owngoalnigeria.com Rohr currently prefers the quartet of Elderson Echiejile, Brian Idowu, Shehu Abdullahi and Tyronne Ebuehi ahead of Aina in the full back position.
