Nigeria Basketball federation will now await the world Basketball governing body (FIBA) to rule on the unending leadership saga trailing the federation.
After both groups couldn’t reach a consensus and amicable settlement as prescribed by FIBA in the communique sent to recognise the NBBF board Abuja election in the interim whose tenure expires today.
Former D’Tigers captain and Vice President of the NBBF board that emerged from the Kano election Olumide Oyedeji said the verdict would be one with serious consequence on Nigerian basketball and that he empathises with the players and the future of the game should the unwanted ban falls on Nigeria insisting that a fresh poll agreement would have saved Nigeria the anxious wait on a FIBA verdict.
Vice President of the NBBF board Abuja election Babs Ogunade has stated that the wait on FIBA for a verdict on the lingering tussle over who takes charge of the leadership of Nigerian basketball on the permanent basis will end Nigerian basketball neither would the game die in Nigeria.
Ogunade speaking in a chat with Brila FM said at this point, the reference and talk on the communique which recognised the present board would best be interpreted by FIBA and their decision would no doubt be binding on all parties involved.
FIBA had earlier given NBBF two months (November 30) deadline to put an end to the leadership crisis rocking the federation, the National Assembly at that time said it will do everything within its powers to ensure that normalcy returned to the sport.
