Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb has described high-power winger Mohamed Salah as ‘Liverpool’s greatest asset at the moment.’

The Egypt international has been on fire since his arrival six months ago to Anfield, racking up 18 goals in 14 league appearances for the Reds.

He has so far this season scored 20 goals and assisted six in 26 games across all competitions and is currently leading the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.

The 25-year-old is also the leading candidate to win the Confederation of African Football 2017 African Player of Year Award.

Salah was sold to Liverpool in the summer on a long-term contract with the Reds for an initial €42m fee that could rise to up to €50, which was a club record, eclipsing the £35m spent on Andy Carroll in 2011.

His performances have impressed the former Ireland international Babb, who insisted that Jurgen Klopp’s troops have their greatest strength in Salah.

“Mo Salah, what he’s added is a surprise element,” Babb said on Sky Sports News this morning.

“His pace has been electric, he’s starting to convert more chances.

“He gets three or four a game but he’s putting them away, shown composure, matured and now he’s Liverpool’s greatest asset at the moment,” he added.

Salah will travel with Klopp’s men on Friday to London as they hope to break into the top four of the Premier League when they clash with fellow giants Arsenal.

The Gharbia-born Salah has been capped 56 times by the Egyptian senior national team at the international level, scoring 32 goals in the process.
