Welcome back lovers! We are happy share with y’all photos from Semira and Idris’ Nikkai ceremony and reception celebration in Lagos at the The Vantage Point, Ojodu. Events By BankySu and her team did a fabulous job planning this masterpiece of a wedding. The bride, Semira glowed thanks to Flawless Faces by Jane who gave her a soft dewy makeup and a rosy glow.
For her Nikkai Ceremony, she wore a rose pink with embellished sequins as a robe/veil whilst Idris wore a damask/aso-oke agbada and later both changed into a wedding dress and dapper tuxedo suit for their grand reception. The ceremony was most definitely a family affair, and we can feel the love brimming from these vibrant photographs. Though the event was a monumental one, we were delighted to see the smiles and special glances that were shared between these sweet lovebirds. Soon, Semira and Idris were declared Mr. and Mrs. and were whisked away to begin preparations for their grand reception soiree.
This wedding was full of laughter and glee captured charmingly by OLUWATOBII Photography, the flow of events and of course the joy that surrounds these two love birds. We are hard pressed to believe that these two are loved the most! One look at these photos and you would fall in love with the details, couple and their love story. Be inspired!
How they met (by Idris):
Having attended the same secondary school, Semira and I have a shared history. She would disagree, but I consider that to be the first time we met even though we had no rapport whatsoever. In fact, I can count on one hand only how many times we exchanged words with each other in the four years we were school mates. She was a couple years my junior and the little “rep” I had then could not shoulder befriending a junior student. In hindsight, perhaps I should have adopted her as a school daughter to allow for more actual conversations .
Fast forward to a dull Sunday afternoon in July 2013, 10 years after secondary school. I was scrolling through my Facebook timeline and stumbled upon a very fetching picture of Semira. “My oh my, this babe is hella fiiinnneee now oo”, I said to myself as I ogled the picture of that Semira Mahmud from secondary school looking all grown and……. I then went down the typical spiral of going through her Facebook profile – all pics (both current and old), bio info and activities were thoroughly scanned. I really liked her online persona and found that we were tuned into the same issues and had many common interests. It was at that moment I made the resolve – “I must holla at this girl, I must make her mine”. So…… I did what any respectable guy does when trying to holla at a girl on social media, I slid into her DMs. Little did I know that that would be the beginning of a long journey to what has come to be today.
We had very light conversations all initiated by me, “Hello, how are you? Long time…” kind of banter. But her responses were very lukewarm. Believe me when I say these light conversations with her lukewarm responses continued for three years! Admittedly, I was not as direct or intentional with my advances as I should have been, lest I be tagged as thirsty or coming on too strong. I mean, I had not spoken to her in over 10 years and her tone in our DM convos were always one of addressing “Senior Idris”. I would check in every couple of months to see how she was doing and attempt to spark conversation, but she was never forthcoming. Again, three years of this! Until early 2016, when I got very tired of the back and forth with no progress and just went for it, full throttle. You can say I renewed my resolve. I abruptly started messaging her every other day as opposed to my previous 4-5 times a year. Turned it up a notch and started calling her just as frequently. She was taken aback by this unprecedented fervor on my part and now tells me that it was at this point it dawned on her that I was trying to be more than a secondary school acquaintance. She finally started giving me the time of day, becoming much more engaged in our online conversations and as a result, our interactions began having depth. Despite the 8-hour time difference between us (she lived in Dublin, Ireland at the time and I lived in the western United States), we would talk for hours each day. That soon turned to twice a day every day and then to a steady three times a day every day. We would skype all weekend, every weekend, sometimes giving her grief for keeping me in her DMs for three years ……… yes I was still bitter about that. We talked about everything and anything, and reminisced about common experiences from our secondary school days. We quickly developed a fondness for each other, very organically, while I found myself inexplicably falling for her fast and hard.
Two months into the “we’re talking” stage, we had our first face-to-face rendezvous in London. I was in town visiting a friend and asked if she would meet me there since she’s next door in Ireland – she obliged. After a day out and about in London town together, I became completely enamored with her. That evening I made another resolve… “I shall make her my wife”. And so here we are, after what has been a glorious year and a half together, walking hand in hand towards #SemIdris2017.
See Our Story!
Idris made the First, Second, Third and Fourth and Fifth move. In my defense, I didn’t know he was making moves.
Idris is very intentional about creating beautiful memories so all the times we have spent together have been memorable.
The first time we met up was particularly special. We met in London for a long weekend. We did typical touristy things in the day and we went on dinner dates at night. The entire trip was filled with uncountable moments of laughter, confessions of feelings, stolen glances and just sheer euphoria. I finally understood what people (especially my friend Bukky) mean when they say when it’s right, you feel it.
Dinner dates and exploring new places.
Anywhere with beautiful beaches! the more remote, the better.
Idris calls me Beau. I call him Idris. ha!
