UCL: Bayern, PSG clash in ‘game of pride’ at Alianz Arena

PSG humiliated the German champions at the Parc des Princes in October, a result that fast-tracked the passage of the bill to sack Carlo Ancelotti from Bayern bench.

Bayern was already having a shaky hope of making it beyond the group stage of the Champions League after a humiliating defeat in France.

However, a change of bench in Bayern saw Jupp Heynckes make a return to management after four years in retirement and taking over a club he had previously in three different stints.

Normalcy has since returned to Bayern since Heynckes took over the reins, winning his first nine games, including winning all their Champions League games after Ancelotti exit.

The Bavarians responded to a 2-1 defeat at Borussia Park at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend with a convincing 3-1 win over visiting Hannover 96 on Saturday.

Bayern could retain a chance of winning Group B outright should they overcome the free-scoring PSG on Tuesday in a 20.45 CET/19:45 GMT kick-off.

However, they have a number of players on their treatment table with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer still recuperating from a protracted Metatarsal fracture he sustained in September that could keep him on the sidelines until March 2018.

Also on the injury list are wingers Arjen Robben and Thiago Alcantara, but the return of Thomas Müller against Hannover was a major boost for Heynckes’ side who have not won a double since the 72-year-old won it in 2013season.

PSG will enter the game on the back of their first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to Strasbourg on Saturday.

While Thiago Motta is ruled out after picking Meniscus injury, the trio partners in ambush Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar will lead the attack line.
